Gaobot Virus

I just received this machine for a friend. It has Windows
XP Professional. It is also carring the Gaobot Virus.
I'm trying to find out how to get ride of this virus. I
have Norton 2004 which I used to scan the machine but it
was unable to detect the virus. I did get an alert when I
brought the machine up on the web that the Gaobot virus
had been detected. But several other scans have not
reviled the presents of the virus. I tried going to
microsoft's
htp://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vebc/data/w32
..gaobot.removal site which is unavailable. Can someone
advise.

pnadsoftware.com and run a scan from there.. THis virus is known to block
onlline scanning except for pandasoftware.com

This virus modifies your HOSTS file, probably the reason you can't get
to the site to find removal information. The only thing that normally
needs to be in your HOSTS file is 127.0.0.1 localhost[/QUOTE]
