Games on XP Home Edition

Hello,
I have windows XP home edition on my brand new pc, and this new pc is in
everything twice as good as my old one.
But the problem is, that i cant play some o f the games, but i COULD PLAY
ALL on my older pc.
Now here are a couple examples of games for what works and what doesnt:

-Call Of Duty 2: Loads some maps, but automaticaly restarts my pc when i
load a specific map.
-Call Of Duty United Offensive: I get the following message when i am trying
to run the game: "Could not load OpenGL. Make sure that you have the latest
drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's web site."
-Medal Of Honor SpearHead: The normal Allied Assault does work, but this
expansion will not work, it aint got an error message, it just will not open
the game.
-Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault: Runs great, it is a way more heavier game
then spearhead for example, but it runs everything!

So the first games wont work, but except for Call Of Duty 2, which isnt very
much better with graphics then Pacific assault.

Does anyone knows what it could be?

Some specifications:
Amd Athlon Pentium 4 3.2 ghz processor
512 MB ram
AGP slot video card - Ati Radeon X550 (RV370)
Windows XP home edition

Also some movies which i play (not real movies but small vid's which are
recorded) wont play good and i only see plain colours, its even hard to see
the objects.
I found out what that was, the Hardware speed.
I go to desktop, then right click and go to properties, then go to settings,
then to advanced, then to solve problems (or whatever it is in english
because mine is dutch) and then set the hardware speed lower.
Then i can see vid's but cant play any games anymore cause they need to be
on the higest hardware speed to play.

My solutions:
1 I Could need a cooler for my vid card
2 Windows XP home edition is the problem
3 Windows XP home edition is the problem because i havn't got the English
version
4 The games dont support windows XP home edition
5 The store which sold this pc to be lies and the video card wont support
these games.....

And what to do about it if im right at anything of this? I have no idea.
I already had the english version 1 time, and not even 1 game worked on
it.....
Look, i can take my whole pc back, but then i lose alot of features which
this pc haves, like: Movie Maker, DvD/CD Writer, automaticly unzipping stuff
(dont ask me how my pc does that last one).

Anyway: SOS!, Help!, can someone please tell me what the problem is?......

Hi Dave
Be patient.
You might get a better response if you ask at

I know Bill, but i posted this at many forums, not only microsoft forums,
and i dont have any helpfull tip by anyone.

Maybe i finally know what to do by myself, so i change my question:

Who knows a site where i can update my driver for the ATI Radeon X550
(RV370) video card?

X550 is a 3rd-Party type of card. ATI has a listing of it's licensed
agents. I believe only a few have ATI "Certified" status. You'll have
to get drivers from your card's specific vendor (MSI, Diamond...)
I don't think that ATI's Catalyst driver is intended for use on these
cards.

dave,

the first thing you might need is go to ati's website (http://www.ati.com)
and download the latest drivers for your video card. you may also find more
information about your video card here:
http://www.ati.com/products/radeonx550/index.html

your video card's driver may be downloaded here:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

you have good enough ram, and most new games would run properly with xp.

a 3.2GHz processor is good enough too. (although you might have amd athlon
64 or amd sempron or intel pentium 4. amd and intel are competitors.)

hope this helps a bit.

regards!

Have you thought of maybe looking on the manufacturer's web site?

You wait the grand total of 46 minutes after asking a question, and then
complain that nobody answers?

First, nobody *owes* you an answer. Everyone here is a volunteer, helping
when he can.

Second, nobody here knows everything, and it's possible that nobody knows
the answer to your question, or that the person who knows hasn't seen it
yet.

Third, 46 minutes is a *very* short time.

Complaining to those who might be able to help you is not a good way to
ingratiate yourself with us.

You should be a bit more patient. You're first post was less than an
hour ago. This is a peer to peer support group and all the posters in
here are volunteers from around the world. It can take 24-48 hours for
someone who might know the answer to see the question and respond. And
the key here is know an answer. Would you prefer garbage answers that
don't help?

You might want to post to a gaming forum and contact the game
manufacturers. After all this newsgroup is for the XP operating system
not for 3rd party apps though people here do try to help with 3rd party
apps as much as they can. Good luck to you.

Let's guess. You waited 46 minutes before posting you little tirade, a
message posted at 9:01 in the morning.

Perhaps it's because most people work for a living and aren't at home
waiting to answer your problem. Perhaps it's because many people use their
computers for productive work, and can't answer questions of running games.
Or perhaps in your original post you failed to mention what version of
Windows your old computer ran so we could make an informed comment. Perhaps
it was because you failed to mention if you went to the game's author
website to see if there were updates to their programs for XP or at least
suggested workarounds. Perhaps your English grammar is so bad, some people
had a hard time figuring out just what your problem was. Finally maybe you
have a persecution complex and need to relax.

One thing that I'm sure of is that after this message, no one is going to be
inclined to assist an IDIOT!

Post in a standard language. Do not post in chat slang.

You post at 8am on a Sunday and then whine. I suggest you take the PC to
a shop and have them set it up for you.

OK, here's your answer. Some old DOS games will not work with XP.
Set up a separate DOS partition on your hard drive and dual boot.
Partition Magic will help you do this, as will other utilities.
