The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an organisation that seeks to make the Web accessible to people with disabilities. Is there a similar organisation for PC games & programmers etc. please?

The reason I ask is that I enjoy playing computer games and I have noticed, in recent years, the tendency for modern games to have audio only dialogue, with little in the way of subtitling. Being partially deaf, this often spoils my enjoyment because I have difficulty hearing the instructions or anything being said. This is often aggravated by backing music.

Comments welcome.

I'm not aware of one existing at the moment, although Gabs did post a site you may find useful a while back:

http://www.deafgamers.com/

Hope that helps :)

edit:

I've done a bit more research now and I've found a paper on accessible gaming which may be an interesting read : http://www.igda.org/accessibility/HCII2005_GAC.pdf (there's some on audio a little down the paper). There's also a website set up as a research project dealing with these issues : http://www.game-accessibility.com/ :thumb:
Cool Thanks Ian
