Game Port to USB Adapter Issue

Does anyone know if it is possible to use an adapter to connect a game port joystick (Blackhawk Digital) to a USB port on a Windows XP machine that doesn't have a game port? I have the joystick and adapter, but XP seems to only see that there isn't a game port recognized and can't install the new joystick

Thanks for any help.

Some seem to work, Peter, but I'd recommend investing in a USB controller to
begin with instead of taking a half-way approach for a "fix."

Thanks for the input. I had already purchased the joystick, then threw good money after bad with the adapter. At this point, it may be time to cut the losses and go the route you suggest.

Thanks again
