FYI svchost-excessive CPU usage

Curt Christianson

There have been a lot of problems regarding svchost and CPU usage incredibly
high,

In my particular machine it manifested itself in slowww web pages being
loaded, or not at all (IE6). OE6 also rediculously slow too.

O Have been using Mike Burgess's custom HOST file for years, but had for got
to disable "DNs Client" in Services. All is back to normal now.Thid
"problem only occurs with XP/2000/ and Vista OS's. It is explained at his
site:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm#Note

I realize this is not a cure-all for those of you *not* running a cusomt
HOST file, but it may be worth looking into. It certainlt cured my problem,
and things are again normal.

Just an FYI friends,

I had a problem with SVCHOST taking excessive CPU (98%) and excessive memory
(90MB). I had a small hosts file (2 entries, plus the comment lines that
come in the sample file). Disabling DNS Client solve the problem also.
