FULL CLEAN-UP

my pc is very slow, it is becoming slower and slower each time a log on.
there are 3 users to the pc and they all run heavy programs, such as
internet, messenger, music player.

as i look at the folers of the pc there are so many empty folders and unused
files (that date back several months).

what i would like to know is that if there is a application or a downlload
that will FULLY clean up the pc. i want it to resort of the files into there
correct folders, delete all unwanted and un-needed files and maybe clean up
the registry too.

all replies will be fully apreciated. thanks

Hi Mark:

Unfortunately, there is no such program since there is no generally
accepted definition of "clean up" - everyone has a different notion of
what that means. In the same way, a software application is not able to
know what you consider to be an "unwanted and un-needed" file, since
everyone has a different idea of what they want and need.

As a general matter, unless your hard disk is almost completely full,
i.e., less than 15% free space, the number of of files and folders
stored there has no effect on the speed of your computer. Unless you
have a problem with your hardware, your computer's performance is
determined by the demands your software is making on the processor and
memory available to run them.

Therefore, your choices are to upgrade your hardware or to reconsider
the software applications you have running in the background.

Best wishes,

Earl Grey

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard disk and how much free space. Right click on
your C drive in Windows and select Properties to get this information.

What is your CPU processor speed? How much RAM memory? Right click on
your My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get
this information.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter. Follow this procedure for each
partition in turn.

Please provide copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please. Please post copies in time sequence

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.
