ftp site connect problem after W-XP system restore

After my HD crashed, I put in a new HD and did a system restore using new
restore disks from microsoft, including SP2 w/Build 2600.
Now, I cannot run ftp software; it will not connect to the ftp site. I tried
three different ftp software applications, bladeftp, filezilla and another (i
forgot). nothing works. Is this a security problem?
Any help appreciated!

Hi,

Try the control panel/internet options/advanced tab and change the setting
for passive ftp.

box was already checked ; I unchecked. rebooted and tried again. Still
doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

I found that disabling the microsoft firewall was the solution.

Have you tried adding the ftp browser to windows firewall's exclusion list?

I did add it to the exclusion list but that didn't work! Strange..
Actually, I finally shut off the firewall and that worked.
