FTP Server Issue - Cannot Ping Router (Using XP)

W

Weiler

I am attempting to configure a FTP server through my router. I've
read tons of postings on the topic, and I'm sure that I have
everything configured properly (or close enough that I shouldn't be as
completely lost as I am), but trying the connection, I found I was
unable to connect.

After a little troubleshooting, I found I could not ping the IP
assigned to my router (neither public nor LAN). There are two
computers connecting through the router, and both have great access to
the Internet with no problems. I am even able to connect to the
router's configuration page (this is the internal address I tried to
ping...the standard 192.168.1.1 in my case). The manual made
reference to ensuring the computer was using DHCP, but in either case
(DHCP or with a static IP), I could not ping the router. I also tried
pinging the public IP from an external computer with the same
result...no reply. The router I'm using is a simple Network
Everywhere NWR04B (router w/ 4 port switch).

If anyone can provide any insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, J

Check the router's firewall settings regarding the no ping.

Read this to ensure you've got the port forwarding sorted out
properly. http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
