FTP Problems

Using Vista Business.
I can access the ftp site and extract the file for changes. When i replace
the file it basically hangs up. Any help please.

Might be some incomatibility with the FTP site's server software and IE,
which I am presuming you are using. Try using a proper client instead.

Is there any reason to use a client?? In XP there was no need. I really
dont want to put anything extra on my laptop

Yes, IE is not really good at FTP and most clients are very small
compared to other software. Many also support resuming partial downloads
(If the website does) that could be very handy with a laptop.

Have you made a Network location to your FTP site or are you
accessing it through IE7?

I agree with Synapse Syndrome - use a 3rd party client.

Like yourself, I try to make the most of the built-in tools, and avoid 3rd
party add-ons unless they're really necessary. But, I use the SmartFTP
client for ftp on Vista. There's something about ftp in Vista; it just
doesn't work very reliably. Being a professional network engineer who
investigates network problems for a living, I should really sit down one day
and analyse the ftp problem with a trace, but ... life's too short, I got
better stuff to work on. I tried the "obvious" remedies, to no avail. I've
been happy with SmartFTP and there are several other good clients out there
as well. They are all quite small programs, so not much overhead or disk
space.

I wish I had a better answer for you but ... there you have it. Hope it
helps a bit.
