Actually i've almost only ever bought seagate hard drives. I buy
Western Digital sometimes..
Though i've heard a story from a reliable source about their WD40 and
WD80 and cable select. and not working with non western digital HDDs.
Though apparently every make have their duds.
I avoid maxtor due to horror stories from years ago of them being
cheap rubbish, though appaerntly maxtor have changed.
I'm haven't heard that seagate have 'bad seasons'.. The only criticism
that I hear and always hear, seems to be reliably that their drives run
a bit too hot. I don't know what your experience is with seagate, I
think i've read most of the thread so if it's written here I haven't
noticed it.

If you google "seagate is crap" "maxtor is crap" e.t.c. you get more
accurate results.
Maxtor's sudden good reports are obviously because seagate bought
maxtor early 2006.
