FTP does not resolve when using host name

Patriot

I have setup an ftp site and everything's works if I user the following
syntax:

ftp://username:p[email protected]

but if I try and use a host name rather than IP address:
ftp://username:p[email protected]
it bombs out.

My network is setup as follows:

My Web/FTP server sits behind a DMZ.(24.28.157.202)
My email server sits on my LAN and I use my firewall to provide a NAT
address to it.

All email addressed to any LAN user is addressed to (e-mail address removed) and it
goes to my email server fine

Anyone that wants to browse our web site can go to www.mydomain.com and is
able to hit my web server.

I have setup my FTP services on my web server and it does work using the IP
address above, but for some reason I can not get to it using
ftp.mydomain.com
am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the help.

Did you create an FTP record as you did the WWW record?

If so, then it should work since after all they're on the same server.

Does ftp.mydomain.com resolve to the 24.28.157.202 address?

As Michael asked, does ftp resolve to that address when you ping it?
