frontpage wont publish

I have had a crash with my hard drive but managed to get it working long
enough to Ghost it to a new one, every thing has worked well untill I tried
to update my web page and it acted as if I was new to the game and now I feel
I am,
when I attempt to publish, I get a window, that is "Remote Web Site
Properties", on clicking this, I get a message , Unable to open
"http://www.gotools.com.au.
Server error, no such file or folder and then all the other text saying the
server could be out of service etc, but its not and still works.
I notice that the index page should have .html mine has htm and I cant
change it as it says one already exists although I cant find it, I am not
sure if this is important, any ideas???

Are you using Word Art, Text Boxes or other VML graphics? Or were the
pages derived from Word documents? In either case a folder named
index_files will have been produced. When you try to rename the
index.htm page this folder will also be renamed to index_files -
obviously this already exists and the rename operation will fail.

Rename index.htm to default.htm, then rename again to index.html. This
will rename both the file and folder in both operations. Allow
FrontPage to update links at each step.

If you have used VML, see
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/vml-graphics.htm for reasons why it
should be removed.

As to the server error, download FP Cleaner from
http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and run the routines that
delete the hidden web cache files, and delete the hidden temporary
files. See if that helps.

Thanks that worked and now it goes into index.html, but it wont load and
still has the message
Unable to open "http://www.gotools.com.au.
Server error: Server error: Cannot open "www.gotools.com.au.conf: no such
file or folder.
1. The web server may not have the front page extensions installed (it does)
2. the web server maybe tempoty out of service. (its not)
3.
4. more os the same
I am wondering why its looking for the web site with 'CONF' on the end, is
this normal??

A .conf file is a configuration file on the server. You will have to
talk with your server admin. or host to fix this problem.

its all worked out with a simple answer not offered by any gurus, go to the
host 'c'pane or what ever they have and install front page extensions, as
simple as that , why did no one know???????

Perhaps because your original post didn't contain enough information to

Plus not everyone has a control panel or one that allows them to install/un-install the FP
Extensions.

I would suggest most Host's have a control panel, otherwise front page and
other configerations is not possible, front page wont work on any thing that
does not have the extensions activated, its just a note to put in your fixit
book and so easy to do, there are many configurations that can be easily done
via a control panel

I have accounts with FP extensions where the host provides a control panel for managing the account,
but it does provide any access to FP extensions functions. If something needs to be set, then the
host has to do it.

Tom: I think you mean: "does *not* provide any access to FP extensions
functions" ;-)

The web host doesn't process access to managing the FP extensions.
