Frontpage web components

I have used the Frontpage banner web component feature in my website
(www.habcraft.co.uk) - this feature has worked OK and when viewed through the
internet browser on my home workstation and the laptop I used to build the
site it works correctly.
My problem... my new lap top (Dell Latitude D610 equipped with windows
professional XP) is not able to view the changing banner pictures. I get the
blank white box with a red X in the corner) I guess this something to do with
my web browser settings in the new lap top / and or / something to with
JAVA???

Q1. What do I need to do to my new laptop to view the Frontpage web
components "banner"

Q2. What expectation can i have in percentage terms of potential visitors to
my site will also fail to see the banner web component...?
Q3. Can I do anything to advise visitos to change thier browser settings to
view my site properly?

You must have JAVA installed, as it usually no longer ships with computers.
And, many people that do have JAVA disable it for security reasons.

Hard to say what the % is for those that don't have JAVA, or don't have it
enabled, but it's likely quite high.

That's why we continually recommend in this newsgroup not to use JAVA based
applications such as the FP Banner or Hover Buttons.

Thank you for your reply...

your news was dissapointing. I had used the banner feature a number of times
on my web site. I need to think of an alternative as it appears to me what
ever the population of people who can view the banner feaure today it will be
in terminal decline as result of people becoming better informed and
replacement machines coming on the market.

Is there an alternative to the banner feature. My web site needs a feature
to show a number of pictures in one area of the page sequentially. the
pictures need to run automatically when a visitor opens the page.

Have you check the JAlbum site? The FAQs say:

Q: Do I need Java to view albums?
A: No, only to generate them. JAlbum usually generates plain html web albums
so any modern browser will do for viewing albums.

I have read much on the JAlbum site. Did not see that FAQ. The question did
not come to my mind until I saw your response to this other question.

I have made photo album with JAlbum and everyone I have sent it to can open
it, etc. except my boss and I was trying to figure out why it did not work
for him.

JAlbum has a support forum. Perhaps if you got enough details as to your
boss's problems, you could ask there.
