FrontPage no longer allows "Save As"

Hi All - I have been using FrontPage 2003 for over two years and it has
worked great until recently. Also using XP Home. I have made no changes to
my system other than the updates that Windows does automatically. About a
month ago, the "Open Site" function quit working. I got around this by using
the "Open Recent Sites" and picking my local web from the list. Now when I
do a "File" "Save As" I get the hour glass and nothing occurs. i.e. the
program hangs up. I am also unable to do a general publish, but I can mark a
file and publish that file with the blue arrow. I have done the following
with no success:

1. I ran the FP cleaner, "95isalive".
2. I also did the Regedit suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/91865.
3. I have reinstalled FP.
4. I have gone to the Microsoft website and downloaded all available updates.

I seem to have run out of ideas. Any other suggestions someone might have.

Hi Richard, I've had similar problems since running Frontpage 2000 on an
upgraded computer with XP. No answers except to save it to your computer
then publish rather than try to save on your server.

Kathleen - Only after I was having the problem did I go there and install
that. There was no change in the behavior.

Christian - I have been working on my local site and trying to publish to the
server without success. I have not tried working directly on the server. I
have just now been able to publish to my laptop and everything works properly
there. It's a shame I can't use my desktop anymore.

Thanks Tom - I will try that. I assume I just delete that entry I added
using Regedit.

I am so frustrated as I am also having this issue all of a sudden. I can
open my site from the recently opened sites task pane but if I try to do it
under File or if I try to then save a page I have opened I get the hour glass
and it stops responding. This is horrible. I have spent months creating a
new site for my business and I am almost finished! It was working fine last
week and all of sudden this happens. It is all I can do to try and muddle my
way through the use of FP to begin with as I have very limited knowledge and
am just working off a simple Learn FP book. What do I do now? Someone
please help me. I beg you....

You delete the actual security update via Control Panel | Add/Remove
programs. Make sure you have "Show Updates" checked at the top.

Jane - I followed Tom's advice and went to Control Panel, Add and Remove
Programs with the Updates box checked. I then deleted all the Windows
Security updates for 2006, rebooted, and my FrontPage is back to normal.

You may have "cured" one problem only to create a larger one
- by deleting all Windows security updates your PC is now wide open to many potential compromises
Suggest you immediately go to Windows Update and reinstall all security updates
- you can do them selectively and test FP in between each to decide which update was causing your problem

Thanks so much Richard. I actually did it slightly different by just
restoring my computer to last Friday in the hopes that whatever "update"
caused this problem happened sometime after that. Apparently it did and FP
is now working as it should. I immediately went and turned off automatic
update so that this won't happen again and I will be aware of when updates
are happening. Thanks again for the response. WHEW! Disaster averted!
