FrontPage error

L

Latitude

We operate a moderately large web site at www.folkart.com; currently we've
been using FrontPage 2002.

We are trying to make extensive use of the Insert Web Component, Included
Content, Page. Frequently when we attempt to publish a change we get the
following message.

"The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are
trying to connect to a FrontPage server, check with the server's
administrator to make sure the FrontPage server extensions are installed
properly. OK"

Our server is a UNIX server with the FrontPage Extentions. We've been
repeatedly assured by our ISP Provider (Verio) that the FrontPage server
extensions are installed properly.

We get the same message when we go directly to the web site and select:
Tools, Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Please share you comments and suggestions regarding our options at this
point. Obviously if we can't reliably update the web pages including this
feature (Included Content, Page), then the value of this feature is
significantly dimenished.

We just received our copy of FrontPage 2003. Will this error continue with
the lastest version of FrontPage or has Microsoft dealt with the problem?

Thanks, Cecil:)

That's a server related error (timeout or permissions)
- which version are they running and have the run a repair and permissions check
- the server logs should give them some guidance (have you asked for them)
For support of the SE on Unix try
http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/download.htm

Also there are some bugs in FP2002 & in the FP2002 SE related to shared borders & include pages so make sure you (and your host) see
& apply all appropriate patches from:

For info in Service Pack 1 & 2 for FP2002 / MSO XP - see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q325671

For the Host/Server running the FP2002 SE

For Unix server problems on the FP2002 SE see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q299360
The latest FP SE for Unix that fix the problems
(FPSE 2000 1.4 patch and an FPSE 2002 SR 1.1 patch)
are at http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport
