frontpage deletes spacer.gif in html tables & resets table width

I usually work with the split screen view, making html adjustments
directly on the code screen. My tables--NOT layout tables--contain
cells that are simply spacer cells, into which I enter, e.g., <img
border="0" src="images/MsSpacer.gif" width="10" height="1">.

Sometimes Frontpage leaves the entry and everything works just fine.
Sometimes Frontpage deletes the entry, leaving nothing between the cell
tags, and the cell collapses.

Sometimes the cell holds the width with an attribute, for example,
width="10". However, that cell usually collapses because my main
content area is set to width=100%. I say "usually" because frontpage
frequently changes the 100% in that cell AND in my table width setting,
which I also set at 100%, to a fixed pixel measurement.

This is particularly maddening because it only happens SOMETIMES and I
have no idea what variable(s) might be causing this. In the table I'm
working on at the moment, the spacer.gif "sticks" in the cells that
contain a background color, but disappears from those that do not. As
I recall, however, that has not been the case for other tables. BTW,
frontpage also tends to "eat" &nbsp; typed in those cells.

How can I keep these cells from collapsing and also keep my 100%
settings?

thanks for any help

If at any time, you click on and drag the edge or a cell or table, FrontPage will instantly
covert it to a fixed width.

Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately, that isn't my issue. I
never click and drag to resize (learned that lesson the hard way), nor
do I format through the layout tables task window.

While I do the initial table set-up in design view, including selecting
background colors and any borders I want in the table, I tend to work
directly with code after that point. I've had too many problems when I
try to format in design view--and layout tables about brought me to my
knees.

This is my first web site/first experience with Frontpage. However,
I've been living (happily) with a succession of PCs since 1985 and,
usually, I have a relatively short learning curve re new software. Not
this time. I hate to imagine the troubles I will face when I try to
publish. I suspect that I will be a frequent visitor to this forum.
