I had a good index.htm page. I modified it. It looked like I wanted it to in
"Preview", so I saved it. As soon as the Save window closed the entire body
of the page vanished.
I found the backed-up website folder and copied the body of the index.htm
page to the clipboard. Then I pasted it into the "code" view of index.htm.
When I Saved it all the body data vanished.
I pasted it back in and SavedAs to HomePage.htm in my website folder. When I
Saved it all the body data vanished.
I copied the whole (head and body) page of code into an html editor and
SavedAs Homepage2.htm in my website fosder. When I opened that page in Front
Page the body was missing. . . . I'm puzzled

Probably badly mangled html
Copy the content from one of your other pages in code view to index.htm
- then save it and edit it
