Front Page & WebSite Question(s)

Hello -

I am very new to FrontPage and would like to create a website.

My question is this: If I create a website using FrontPage and would like
to e-mail the "file" for someone else to preview it (who does not have
FrontPage) before purchasing a domain name and actually putting it on the
web, can this be done? Or do I have to purchase a domain name first, then
put it on the web for them to preview?
Also, another question in a
different direction: On the website, there should be a way for shoppers to
purchase an item from the website. How can I set it up so this is possible?
Perhaps this should be a completely new posted question, but I thought I'd
throw it out there for now.

I'd greatly appreciate any help!

Thanks!

1. Sure, depending upon the size of the website.

Publish it to a folder, zip the folder into a .zip file and then email it to
the client.
Tell the client unzip the file into a folder and then double click index.htm
in the folder.
Keep in mind that any functions that require FrontPage extensions will not
work.

2. You need a shopping cart application, a security certificate and a secure
https:// server.

Hi Steve -

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I hate to sound so
confused, but what exactly are extensions and how will I know if these
extensions are part of my website? Are they something that you intentionally
"set" or do they automatically become part of the site somehow?

In
reference to the shopping cart, security certificate and server, are these
components of FrontPage or separate entities? If they are not part of
FrontPage, where would I look for them?

Thanks again!

Things that require extensions are, hit counters, forms, etc.
However, if you just want your client to be able to view the layout, design,
click links to open other pages etc, it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, what I have done in the past, is set up a password protected directory
or sub web on my personal site, and publish their web to it. Then give the
client the link and username and password and let them view it there.

FP extensions are thingies that run on the server that make life easier if
you are using FP. When you buy webspace from a host you should make sure you
buy one with FrontPage extensions...and if you want life a even more easier
(sic) go with a Windows Server & FP Extensions (rather than linux/unix with
extensions).

If you're going to have only a few items to sell, you should go with PayPal
instead of a full blown shopping cart. It's easy and you don't have to worry
about security or setting up merchant accounts. And, you can do it easily
with FP.

I am pretty sure you could also just publish it to a CD and mail the CD.

Use a free host like tripod.com which has fpse (frontpage server extensions)
if you need them.

You can use paypal.com for your shopping cart you just need an account with
them
