Front page FTP problem

L

Lou

I've been happily using the FTP within FP to publish my sites for over
a year now. On Saturday, I started having a problem - my ftp could
establish a connection with my hoster and then stuck when listing pages
in the server. I then got an error message port 500 not found (or
something very similar).
Can anyone help - it would be much appreciated

This is most likely an issue on the remote server. You need to contact your
host.

Thanks Tom
I've been speaking to my host all morning and they directed me to this
group where I found a work around suggesting using passive ftp and then
an answer suggesting publishing the site to hard drive and deleting
_vti files. None of this has worked - maybe because these were
referring to old versions of FP. If you can suggest where I should
start with my hoster I will talk to them again.

Thanks

I had trouble when I had Internet Explorer set to Work Offline. Once I
'connected' it the FP problem went away.

Thanks everyone for their replies. The problem has now been sorted -
fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

FTP uses port 21

A 500 error usually indicates a permissions problem on the server.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I'm 'publishing' to a site (I've been
successful before) that doesn't have FP extensions, so I use the
ftp://xxx.com as the site address to publish to. FP asks for my
userId/Password and gives the message : 500 illegal PORT command. 500
Unknown command". What do I do?
