Front Page Error Message 425

N

Nadja

We are trying to publish changes to our website (www.snorkelpark.com) and
keep on getting the same error message in Front Page:
"425 Could not open data connection to port 5001. Connection timed out. "

We verified our firewall setting and also contacted our website host GoDaddy
but have not been able find how to rectify the error message.

Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

FP does not use port 5001
- how are you trying to publish
Since http://www.snorkelpark.com/_vti_inf.html indicates you do not have the FP Se installed on the site you need to publish using
FTP (port 21)
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825503&Product=fp2003

We tried to follow the instructions of the link indicated but it still
doesn't work.

When trying to publish, we do the following:
File - Publish Site - Enter Password -
And this is when the error message "425 Could not open data connection to
port 5003. Connection timed out " comes up. When doing further attempts the
port number/error message changes: 5004, 5005, etc.

The remote website properties are set as follows:
- FTP: Ticked.
- Remote website location: ftp://snorkelpark.com
- Use passive FTP: Unticked.

We have been publishing changes/updates to the website up to this point and
it's been working fine.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Switch to Remote Site view and set up your remote site properties to use FTP

If the "Use Passive FTP" box is ticked, clear it, or tick the box if it
is unticked.

Ronx,

"Use Passive FTP" box was unticked and we ticked it and the error message
didn't come up. However, every single page and file in both columns (local
website & remote website) shows a question mark, the unchanged ones, as welll
as the couple of files we changed. Why is this and how do we rectify that?

We looked at the MO Front Page Help and it says:
Conflict: The local and remote Web site files were changed simultaneously,
prior to one being synchronized with the other.
Action: Merge the changes from one file to the other manually, and then
overwrite the file.

How do we merge the changes from one file to the other manually? What about
the files that were not modified?

Thanks again.

It appears that the two sites have gone out of synch. The best way to
bring them back into synch is to:
Run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks in the local site, then:
Publish All pages, either from Local to Remote or Remote to Local. The
direction is determined by which site is up to data - publish that one.

After publishing All pages you should be able to get back to publishing
changed pages only.

Before the full publish, in Remote Web Site Properties-Publishing tab,
change the method of choosing how changes are determined:
Select "Determine changes by comparing..." or "Use source file
timestamps..." - whichever is not selected now, and see if that makes a
difference.

Appreciate your continued help. It seems though that we resolve one problem
only to encounter the next one. We followed your instructions and when Front
Page was processing the Web updates, the following error message appeared:

"Could not find a webserver at 'snorkelpark.com' on port 21. Please check to
make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set
correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be
temporariloy out of service."

We tried a couple of hours later and the same message appeared again. We
then called Go Daddy and they ensured us that there was nothing wrong on
their part.

Please advise.

You have to use a 3rd Party FTP application, as FP can not connect to all FTP servers.

FP FTP can not always connect to FTP Servers, and if you are uploading via FTP to GoDaddy, maybe
they have upgraded there FTP server, which FP can not connect to, so in these cases you may have to
use a 3rd Party FTP, such as WS_FTP, etc.

If your account has the FP extensions install, then you should not be using FTP to upload, instead
you need to use FP's http mode.

I have recently had this 425 problem and switching off the Windows firewall
sorted it. However it is not a very satisfactory solution.
