front end / back end data

I need help. Admittedly I am a novice at Access, although I am trying hard.

Albert D. Kallal had given me some really good advice on an earlier post,
but I must have done something wrong, now I'm in a bind.

I have a very simple table that I am using with another person on a project.
We together created the table. We work at different locations, not on a
network. (using access 2002) I have split my database and now have two
files, *.mdb and _be.mdb

I have both files in a directory, and I open access and have populated my
table with records.

At Albert D. Kallal recommendation I have zipped BOTH files and sent them to
my partner. She is trying to modify some forms and reports we made when we
were working on my machine at my location.

The problem is, when she unzippes the files, first she unzipes the _be.mdb
file and she see the table and all the data I've input, but none of the
reports or forms are there.

If she tries to open the *.mdb file, she gets an error message that says
"Dish or network error"

What have I done?? I could really use some help.

thanks

that would be correct. the reports and forms should all be in the FE
database, not in the BE.
If she tries to open the *.mdb file, she gets an error message that says
"Dish or network error"

unless your friend puts the BE database in *exactly* the same "place" on her
PC, that you had it on your PC, her FE database can't find her BE. rather
than trying to duplicate that filepath, it might be easier to teach her how
to re-link her FE to her BE. tell her to open her FE database to the
database window (she may have to hold down the Shift key while opening the
database), then go to the Tables tab, and delete all the *linked* tables.
then, on the menu bar, click File | Get External Data | Link Table. in the
Link dialog box, navigate to wherever the BE database is saved. select the
database and click the Link button. in the Link Tables dialog, click the
Select All button and then the OK button.

Thank you, I am so grateful for knowledgeable people that are willing to
offer help in these discussion boards to people like me, that really don't
know what they are doing. I promise to get smarter, I promise to take a
class to better equip myself to use Access, then I promise to help others as
you helped me.

Thanks again,

take a class, by all means, jw - but don't count on it to teach you more
than the basics, and don't count on it to teach you some of the most
important basics - especially relational data modeling. suggest you also do
extensive study on your own, utilizing the many, many resources that are
available on the internet, in addition to these newsgroups. to get started,
visit http://home.att.net/~california.db/tips.html, and also look at the
Links page on that website.
