Fresh install of windows 2000 pro.

I am trying to install windows 2000 pro on a Compaq Presario 7470. When I insert the first disk I get a Disk I/O error. My computer currently has windows 98. I am stuck and have no idea how to move past this error. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you can boot from W9x/DOS diskette you can use i386\winnt.exe. Upgrade
the BIOS (System ROM).
