Freeze in spellcheck

New user here, not sure what info to provide. Running WinXP, Word 2003, new computer. When spellchecking a 10-page document, the program will freeze on a specific misspelled word (freezing on the same word more than one time) and the screen will flicker continually and not respond at all. C-A-D to shut down. Once I go back and fix this specific word manually, spellcheck continues on without problem. I encountered this problem previously in Word 97, but only spontaneously. Any ideas?

The misspelled word was "fainting" I believe, but don't remember how it was misspelled. I'm curious ... why would what the word is be an issue?

So that I could try and reproduce the problem.
