Freeware to Create Thumbnails Adjustable in Size

B

Ben Alias

I'm looking for freeware that creates thumbnails of picture files, but
where I can adjust the size of the thumbnails to the point where I
feel they strike the right balance between sufficient detail to give
an adequate preview and smallness of size.

I have tried Irfanview, but it seems to create thumbnails that are
just one size and are not adjustable.

File/Thumbnails: on Irfanview Thumbnails Window menu choose
Options/Set Thumbnail Options. Set thumbnail size from 50x50 to
300x300

Why you need FirmTools ShellExtension?

Our Windows Explorer system extension makes it easier for users to work
with graphics files. With our product you'll be able to view the image
as a thumbnail, print it out and convert it to another graphics format
using the right button menu!

Image of which format can I use?

The present application gives you a possibility to work with images of
any of the following formats:

* GIF - Graphic Interchange Format;
* JPG , JPEG - Joint Photographic Expert Group format;
* BMP - Windows bit-mapped graphics format;
* PNG - Portable Network Graphics format;
* TGA - developed by Truevision;
* PSD - Adobe Photoshop;
* TIF,TIFF - Universal Graphic Format for PC and Mac platforms;
* SGI - Silicon Graphics file format, also known as RGB file format;
* RGB, RGBA - Silicon Graphics RGB formats;
* BW - Silicon Graphics file format;
* PGM – Portable graymap file format;
* PBM – Portable bitmap file format;
* PPM – Portable pixmap file format;
* PCX - PC Paintbrush MS-DOS;
* PCD - Kodak PhotoCD format.

How to install the ShellExtension?

ShellExtension will be integrated into the Windows Explorer shell
automatically right after you install it.

How to use the Setup dialog?

You can enable or disable the necessary command of the ShellExtension
from its Setup dialog. For that click Start button, select
Programs/FirmTools/ShellExtension.
In the Setup dialog check or uncheck the appropriate box and then click
OK.

* in the "Show thumbnail" area you can select the image thumbnail
size using the drop-down menu.
* select Custom option and assign your own thumbnail width and
height entering necessary values.
* use "Best fit" option to fit the thumbnail into the frame.

By default image thumbnail size will be Standard and will fully fit the
thumbnail frame of the right-button menu.

How can I convert the file of one graphics format to another one?

Converting files is very useful when you want to use a graphic in one
of your applications that doesn't support the format of the file.
For that use the "Convert To" feature of the right-button menu.
In the "Convert to" dialog:

* select the drive and folder in which you want to save the
converted file;
* pull down the Save as Type list and select the format you want to
convert the selected file;
* type in the converted file name in the File name box;
* to start the conversion, click [ Save ].

How to print out graphic files from the right-button menu?

Simply select "Print Image" in the right-button menu. In the standard
"Print" dialog box specify the settings. Click OK to start printing.
