Eh Folks,
I have started a family tree project and have found a few already
posted family trees which have info which I would like to add.
Unfortunately I cannot find a program which will produce GED files (GED
is kind of like the HTML of the genealogy field) starting with a Web
Page generated by one of the popular family tree making programs.
There is an old program called web2ged which really works great, but
the only place to find it, is at the Internet Archive and this is a
time and 3 generation limited demo. It is here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010622095907/http://www.pratt.lib.md.us/~bharding/rippleeffect/
I am trying to contact the developer and have gotten as far as finding
out that the sister of programmer still works for the Pratt Library in
Baltimore, but the E-mail address they gave me for her does not work.
Eventually, I would like to see if the developer, William Harding, is
interested in making the software freeware.
On another front, I am trying the perhaps unethical route of cracking
the software, since the software has been unavailable on the Web for 3
years.
At any rate, does anyone know of any other free software that will
produce GED files from Web pages produced by say Family Tree Maker,
GED2HTML, GED2WWW, GedPage, HTML2GED, Sparrowhawk, and/or
WWW.MY-GED.COM as web2ged does so well?
