Freeware alternative to Stellar Phoenix?

V

Viking Mail

Hi all,

I need to revcover a bunch of files from a trashed HDD. I've downloaded and
run the trial of Stellar Phoenix FAT, which took a couple of days to scan
the drive and then proudly presented me with a list of files on the damaged
drive. Cool! But the thing won't actually recover them until you pay for the
thing. Fair enough, I suppose, but I'm reluctant to actually cough up $79
unless I know for sure that the files could be successfully recovered.

Does anyone know of a reliable (the lost data is important!) freeware
alternative to this program?

TIA

Rob Ashburn.

I had succes with Restoration in the past:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html

There's also PC Inspector:
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm
which did work on some occasions for me.

and Drive Rescue:
http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/driverescue19d.html
which I never used, but I read some good reviews about it.

I also have have very good results with Restoration and Drive rescue.
Restoration is easier to use but Drive rescue appears more thorough.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. Drive Rescue looks to have done the job
perfectly.
