Free Space

Why does the amount of free space vary when I start my computer? Sometimes
it says I have 600+ mb and sometimes it says I have less than 100 mb. The
total size is 5.98 gb. I could see if I was getting large files on a
consistent basis, but I use disk cleanup regularly and delete cookies and
files regularly.

How do I get the size of my free space to be consistent everytime I start my
computer?

Why do you think it's important/necessary to "get the size of my free
space to be consistent everytime I start my computer"?

Unnecessary. My concern - if I were in your shoes - is why I only have
5.98GB ONLY.

The "inconsistency" you are seeing could be for a variety of reasons, but
with only 100-600MB free, that computer (or at least hard disk
drive/partition - considering it seems to be your system partition) is at
end-of-life.

Well it was a refurb when I bought it a couple years ago. Maybe its time to
get a new computer. It seems to work o.k., but if I got a new computer,
would I be able to transfer XP and MS Office to the new machine?

If you had a retail copy of XP, then you can install it on a new
computer. Otherwise, if you only have the copy that came with the
computer, ie OEM version, then the answer is no. However most
computers, for the better or worse, comes with a copy of windows
pre-installed and an OEM version on a DVD in case you need to reinstall
or do recovery.
