First of all, you may want to learn to quote in usenet; you posted all
kinds of useless junk such as my signature and quotes from others having
nothing to do with what you're responding to.

Second, I did not lodge any complaint, did I? Just an observation about
your posting practices. You seem a bit defensive; why not let the quality
(or lack thereof) of your product speak for itself? Do you not want
others to do as I suggested and look to other sources of information
besides your obviously biased forums?

Third, I doubt I'll ever even try one of your programs based on the
attitude you've displayed in this newsgroup. I don't like pushy people,
and you're about as pushy as they come.

I hate to start a war as my intention is simply to set the record
straight. But you blamed us for providing biased information from our
forums:

Thats what you said:

"Also, it seems a bit suspicious to me that Comodo, in its attempted
defense
of its marketing practices, that it always links to posts on its forums
or
other pages on its website, which are hardly unbiased places to be
looking
for such information. One would be wise to look elsewhere to determine
the
truthfulness of the matter."

Even though what is being mentioned in our forums link to third party
information.

So please tell us why did you make the above statement if you knew the
information we provided was third party information from reputable
sources?

thanks

btw: just seen this launched about our firewall that u might like to
read

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/ZDM/story?id=2023631

Too bad the author spoiled his article with that "invisible ports"
nonsense. So called stealthing doesn't make ports invisible. Instead,
the lack of a normal response to a ping makes your PC stand out like a
sore thumb, and simply informs a hacker that you're powered up and
using a firewall. If you are shut down, he will get a response from
your ISP letting him know that.

Just blowing off steam about one of my pet peeves concerning
the spreading of misinformation :)

Wow! How do you get away with that?

Well, my ISP provides a firewall.

I just still prefer to use one on top of it for more control over what
goes in and out.

Just remember, it's gone in seven days or 15 retrievals.

If Melih wishes to use this in his company's defense, he needs to make

I hate to start a war as my intention is simply to set the record
straight. But you blamed us for providing biased information from our
forums:

You are reading things into what I said that I didn't say. I didn't say
you were providing biased information, I said your forums were hardly the
place to go looking for unbias information. They're not the same thing.
And I didn't "blame" you, I said it was suspicious that links you post
here are always to places on your own forums or website (which I see
you've been posting links to other places now in other posts, which is an
improvement).
So please tell us why did you make the above statement if you knew the
information we provided was third party information from reputable
sources?

Where did I say the links were to third party information, or that I had
ever been to your forums? I said the links you "posted here" were to your
forums or website. All I see is what you post here; what you post
somewhere else is not my concern, but all the links I've seen from you
prior to this were to your own forums or website. And why anyone would
think they'd get unbiased information about a piece of software from the
forums or website of the developer of that software is beyond me.

It appears to me your intention is not to set the record straight, but to
attack anyone that you think is attacking you, partly by trying to twist
what others say into a supposed "attack", and using that as justification
to "attack back". Like I said, you're pushy and your attitude stinks. You
want to get down in the mud, feel free but I won't be joining you. I
usually don't go into such public displays, but

Thanks for posting the follow up. But the link that webroot's support

tia,

Yeah that was a pretty useless link.

See below for the contents of my support ticket.

Spy Sweeper Issue: I have a general question
Sub-Issue: My question is not listed here
Summary:
Details: Is the COMODO Trusttoolbar spyware?

First allow me to thank you for your excellent and reliable Spysweeper
program. I have been happily using it since January 2006

I have been considering installing some of COMODO's software on a trial
basis. I have heard some opinions that the toolbar that comes packaged with
their products is adware, and difficult to remove.

COMODO's forums http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,113.0.html dispute
this claim (as well as accusing Webroot of falsely identifying them as
spyware), also a linked PC World
http://msn.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,120501,00.asp article makes no
mention of any malware at all.

I would appreciate a clarification of this issue prior to my installing.

Sincerely

Brian Robertson

Obviously you misunderstood what I said. I did not say come and have a
look at our forums as such, I merely pointed to a posting in our forums
that had third party information.

From the above :

"Comodo Personal Firewall 2.0 installs inside the Comodo Launch Pad, a
control center that pulls together various free and free-trial
products from Comodo."

Isn't that something that many here have complained about ? You just
ignored their complaints ?

Yes some people complained, we explained our reasoning and we started a
thread in our forums about what we should do
http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/board,8.0.html
the debate is still going on and whatever our users decide we will
implement!

Also its worth noting this post where a user explains about what
Norton, MacAfee etc do with their control panels

Its because they never analysed the Trusttoolbar in the first place and
now they have been cought with their pants down! Unfortunately the anti
spyware market is littered with cowboys!

Thanks, but that seems like an easy way to get what *you* want. Most
of the people who are against your Launch Pad would NOT be posting
in your forum.

Kind of like a priest asking his congregation "Is the pope a nice
guy ?" I wonder what the majority may answer ?

John, et al;

I was going through a few threads on the Comodo website wrt the launch
pad earlier today. In comparison to other forums, there's a solid and
-what I'd call- healthy debate about the value of the launch pad. To
the credit of the Comodo peeps, they've started threads on the topic,
such as "Kill Launchpad?" Not all of the respondents arey soho users
either. Good perspectives, healthy debate. Whether Comodo follows
through...they have on other issues. They seem /engaged./

I'm not saying these peeps are saints but they /are/ trying to figure
out how to work with the freeware market.

If you haven't taken the time to read some of these threads, and you are
in the market for freeware security stuff, it's illustrative at the very
least.

-Craig

[n.b. I don't use Comodo products, although I may]
