Free Domain or SubDomain Names

Does anyone know where I can get a free domain or sub domain. This
website is for an organization so free domains that require pop-up or
banner ads will not do. Putting a small link to the site proving the
domain name is acceptable. I will take anything you can give me.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking (because I'm not sure
exactly how it works) but I think the Island Nation of Tokelau gives
out domain names that end in .tk for free. See here:

http://www.dot.tk/

I think the way it works, is you have to find your own host for the
site, but entering the domain name will redirect your browser to your
hosted elsewhere folder (which can just be one folder of many on
another say .com domain).

Pay attention to copyright issues, as you may have to pay $10 to use
the domain in say a company name.

I usually use www.dot.tk for my personal websites and wish I could for
this b/c it would save my time but it puts a banner across the top of
your page and since the website is for an organization I can not have
that.

Is the organization a 501C(3) corporation? If so, start writing to
hosting companies asking for either a donation or a greatly reduced
rate, and see what kind of response you get.

If it's not, it's just another company that doesn't want to spend
money.
