FP Page Tabs Missing

Guest

I have been using FP 2002 since 2002 and last week something changed. I went
to update my web pages and the only page tab that would display under the
Menu and Formatting Tool Bars was the Index. All other folders opened in a
window and when I selected a file it opened as a full screen. I originally
could have several folders such as Images and and Pages open at the same time
with a tab at the top. WHAT HAPPENED? Sure would appreciate any help possible.

If I have to uninstall/reinstall FrontPage, could I save all the website
folders and copy/paste them back after the reinstall - or - is it more
complicated than that?

Corey:

Thanks for the tip. After reading the webpage I wonder which option to use;
do you have a suggestion?

FYI - I maintain all of one website's folders and files on the office
computer. That's where I revise them and then publish to the ISP's server.
Even with the problems I've mentioned I can still revise pages and publish to
the server but it sure is inconvenient.

If, as a late resort, I have to uninstall/reinstall FP can I save the folder
containing all the website folders/files, reinstall FP and then access the
saved folders? Or, is it more complicated than that?

Thanks again.

I would start at the top and work my way down. I only recommend uninstalling
FP as a last resort but usually one of those other suggestions on TFW or the
cleaner might work

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner
( with
Expression Web Designer and SharePoint Designer support )
Download links are at the bottom of the page.
Run the functions that clear:
The Hidden Temporary files.
The Hidden Cache (*.web) files.

Thanks, I will follow your recommendations and reinstalling FP is the last
thing I want to do. However, if it should eventually come down to that, how
should I approach saving and reimplementing the files from 5 years of work
(e.g. all the files stored in the main website folder on the local hard
drive)?

I do have a clone (a mirror image backup) of the system's hard drive from
prior to this issue coming up. I could restore it, but then we would lose all
the updates to our database, email and other work that has transpired since
it was created (our office mgr would "kill" me).

Thanks again for your advice.

Reinstalling FP will not wipe out your data files. But, back them up to be
on the safe side.

Corey and Tom, Thanks a lot. I had searched the net with Google looking for a
link about "FP Page Tabs Missing" (and many variations of the search
argument) with no luck. I really appreciate both of you taking the time to
lend a hand. I'll try your suggestions and update the Post later so anyone
else having this problem will find something that will help - or - at least
find out how I finally rsolved the probelm.

If you have any other DO's, DON'T's or suggestions please post them.

Again, a BIG THANKS!!!!!
