FP 2000 inserting "file:///C:/..." into hyperlink addresses

I'm using FrontPage 2000 to edit web pages stored in a folder C:\Web.
These pages are uploaded to the web server by FTP (I don't publish them
using FrontPage.)

Whenever I insert a hyperlink to one of my other pages, FP inserts
"file:///C:/Web/" in front of the address, which is obviously invalid
when it's on the server. This only started happening after I made my
folder into a "Web". In fact, I've managed to stop it again by deleting
the special folders FP created. But then I don't get the pane down the
left hand side showing all my pages.

Is it possible to stop FrontPage making my hyperlinks local addresses
but still have the contents of my Web folder listed?

You need to open the folder as a web in FP, then make sure that you create or import all content to
be used in the web into this folder via FP Import command, then you have to make sure that you have
saved all page before you use your FTP application to upload. You might want to consider publish the
site to another folder on your HD, then open the folder in Windows Explorer and delete all of the
_vti folder, then use your FTP application to upload the remaining content.

Hate to be a parasite here, but Julian's question included an indirect
reference to a simple problem that I now have -- it is that I somehow no
longer have that left-most FrontPage pane that just lists the local folders
and files associated with the website that I happen to be working on... I
don't know how I nuked it, and I can't seem to figure out how to get it to
re-appear again (I can still get the info by just clicking on either the
"folders" option at the bottom left of the screen or the "website" option at
the top of the screen, but it consumes the entire screen... obviously I'm new
to FP, and I am using FP 2003. Thanks for your time.

Run the function that restores the Default Toolbars and Menus.

I tried that, although previously I dragged and dropped the content
into the web, which I thought had the same effect as importing it. It
didn't make any difference. As soon as I modified a hyperlink, it
inserted a full path to the hard drive.

I don't know if the fact my headers have a <base href="..."> tag makes
any difference...

I didn't try publishing it to another folder as you suggested, because
that's going to get very tedious and be a source of confusion having
two copies of the files.

Drag-n-drop is the same as using the Import Command.

Before you check the URL, make sure you have saved the file first.

Remove the base href tag from your pages.

Remove the base href tag from your pages.

Ah, that's the culprit, then.

I only recently started using that tag, after I read somewhere that it
was good practice.
