AMD introduced their 64 bit processor
Intel introduced their's
AMD ships dual core chips
DDR2 Ram go online (mainly)
Intel pushes Core 2 duo

Now Intel's coming out with a quad core chip

WHERE IS THE SOFTWARE FOR ALL THIS HARDWARE!!

It's like driving a formula 1 race car on a local highway.

Maybe a change in OS is in order. :)

E.g., my OS (Debian GNU/Linux support 64-bit processors, dual/quad core
chips, etc. (without any hacking). ALL software I use (many GB of sw!)
is compiled for 64-bit architectures.

So don't worry ;-)

My system I'm currently running on:
AMD Athlon 64 3500
Asus AN8-E MoBo
Geforce 6600 (nVidia) 256Mb

I once thought of migrating to Linux.
Will Linux have drivers for my Brother All-in-One printer and D-link
Router 624??

Pick a Linux Distro < SUSE, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Fedora, etc. > and see if
they have a Live cd/dvd < one which boots the operating system from the
cd/dvd that leaves your hard drives alone >. Download it, burn it, try
it.

For instance:

Brother does release Linux drivers, and I think D-Link routers are
generally well supported. But you'll want to find some useful
information through search engines. ;-)

I wouldn't worry at all about the router, generally you can access those by
pointing any modern webbroswer at your default internet gateway. I would
look for linux drivers for the printer before making the switch over...

It should be noted that you can also get 64bit/multicore support with
Windows XP 64bit edition, another nicety of this release is that it features
an un-tainted version of MS's patch guard which basically makes it immune to
all of the worst spyware currently available for windows. The bonus here is
that you do not need to find replacements for the software you already have,
all of it should run just fine out of the box. As with Linux you may want to
double check driver support for the hardware you currently own, 64bit
windows versions still don't have as many drivers available for it as the
32bit flavors do. If you're interested in this route you can find a copies
reasnobly priced at http://www.zipzoomfly.com, I think $124 last time I
checked. A bit pricier than Linux, but in line with most other major
commercial OS's that I'm aware of.

Nice system.

My D-Link router works great with Linux. It works great with the Win98se
boxes in the house too.

Look for your printer here to see what others have experienced.
