formatting SDI disk on W2K resets system

During most of my attempts to format an SDI disk on my W2K development
machine, the system resets (crash and reboot) near the start of the
operation (ocassionally it does not reset). I'm a beginner trying to follow
the MSDN article "Building and Deploying XP Embedded Images." I am creating
and formatting an SDI disk as described in that article. I create a 128 MB
SDI file with SDI Loader and I format a primary boot partition (basic disk)
to be the same size although I get the same result with smaller and larger
sizes. I'm using XPe/SP1, Windows 2000/SP4, and an otherwise rock solid
Dell Optiplex P3/933. How can I stabilize this process?

I upgraded my system to XP. Using the same computer and same installation of
XPe tools, this problem disappeared under XP. I think that's quite reasonable
verification of the problem. So I wonder why my post got no response from
Microsoft or anyone else. Is Windows 2000 not taken seriously as an XPe
development environment? Any other reason?

Roger,

I'm sure that others are using 2K as a development platform. I personally
use XP pro with no problems. I guess maybe no-one else is experiencing this?
Maybe there was something corrputed in your install of 2K pro? I'm not sure,
but I'm glad you got it worked out!
