formatted vista hd in rage and ....

Hallo, I am in the uk and recently purchased a new pc with vista home edition
on it.
I had a xp pro pc as well and transfered all my files over with the belkin
usb transfer cable. I found may of my software program would not work on
vista, and in a rage, I formatted the vista h/d. I dont have an installation
cd from pc world as it was preloaded and they cannot / dont want to help me
further.I have since then put the xp pro h/d in the same pc and have two h/d.
The vista h/d is untouched since the quick format.

Question: How can I recover the installation

Thats because you most likely voided your warranty when you formatted Vista
off the system.
Every Computer that has an OS preinstalled comes with some form of
recovery....wether it be a hidden recovery partition that is accesible only
when you push a seqeunce of keys when booting or a seperate recovery CD.All
new systems also come with a manual which more often then not is on the
HD...which you formatted....This manual tells you how to access this
"recovery" partition or CD.
The website of the Manufacturer usually has a copy of this manual on their
website....a search should turn it up.You will need the specific model
number of your system to do this.
New systems also usually have a warning when 1st booted that tells you to
back up your system in case you do something foolish...like losing your
temper at an inanimate object which only responds to your input...........

You'll need to go out and purchase a "Full Version" of
Windows XP and then proceed with a clean install.

If it is anything other than an 'Advent' PC, contact the manufacturer for a
CD.. if they will not play ball either, then you will have to buy your own,
or find out how to access the recovery partition if one exists still..

Several issues need to be addressed:

1. You cannot transfer program installations using a USB crossover cable.
You can easily move data files that way, but not programs. That is why your
programs would not work.

2. Your computer came with a partition that contained a disc image and
installer to return your machine to a factory fresh state. Your owners
manual has instructions on how to create a restore CD or restore DVD set
from this partition. You did not make the restore discs, and then you
formatted the only other source of files needed to reinstall the system.
Then you voided your warranty by changing the OS that was shipped on the
computer. You therefore created a problem that you will have extreme
difficulty in fixing.

My best suggestion...contact the manufacturer and have them ship you a
restore disc set for your computer. You *WILL* have to pay for these disks,
as they are not included in the price of your computer, and as stated you
voided the warranty that may have allowed them to ship you the discs for
free.

You say your computer shipped with Vista. Likely there is a product code
sticker on the computer. Find someone who has the Vista install DVD. Use it
to reinstall Vista to your computer and use your product code which should
be on your computer or with your documentation.
You will need to download and install various drivers for your hardware.
Have on hand the drivers for the mother board and network card. Others can
be gotten after Vista is up and running but the more you have on hand the
better.
