Format paragraph and font with key sequence?

I'm using Word 97, but the answer is probably not much different than with
Word XP. I want to know how to assign certain format attributes of a
paragraph and the font to a key sequence. Specifically, I want a shortcut
keystroke sequence (Ctrl-?) to give me a left indent of a -.5 (negative) and
a hanging indent of .5 (positive), and one left tab stop in the first line
at 2.7". The real surprise would be if I could also have the first line
only be bold. Can any of this, with the exception of the bold font (I
presume) be assigned to a Ctrl-? sequence?

Thanks.

Couldn't you create macro's that do what you want them to do... then assign
the macro to a keyboard shortcut?

Hi, Ed,

Just define a new paragraph style (Format > Style > New) having all the
modifications you listed. Then you can assign any keyboard shortcut to that
style.

See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/CreateATemplatePart2.htm and
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/AsgnCmdOrMacroToHotkey.htm for
instructions.

The tab stop will be available on all lines of the paragraph, not just the
first -- but it won't have any effect unless you actually type a tab
character.

Making the first line bold will be pretty much manual, because it isn't
possible to make a paragraph style apply different formatting to different
parts of a single paragraph. It would be possible to write a macro to apply
the style and then make the first line bold. Either manually or with a
macro, this could run into problems if you sent the document to a different
PC with a different printer, which might change where the end of the line is
(see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm).
