Format of File Arrangements within Windows Explorer

William

Can anyone tell me how to permanently change the option of
how my file arrangements appear in Windows Explorer?

In other words, sometimes when I open up a folder
containing several files, my files names appear as icons
and are arranged in Tile format instead of just the name
of the file listed vertically. I know how to temporarily
fix this (i.e., go to View, then click on 'List'),
however, after a few times of opening Windows Explorer it
eventually reverts back to the Tiles arrangement. Does
anyone know how to permanently fix it so that it always
appears in the 'View ----> List' format?

Thanks,

William

Hi William,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

You can also resolve this with the newest version of TweakUI. Get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, look under explorer/customization, increase the "folders
to remember".

Open a window. Set it up exactly as you would want by default -
including things like tool bars, size of window, type of icon etc,
arrangement. Then in its Tools - Folder Options - View, make sure that
'remember each folder's view settings' is checked, and click the 'Apply
to all' button at the top
