Using W2K, OL2002

I do NOT want to use Word as my editor.

I DO want to be able to use subscript, and to create copyright and trademark
symbols.

How do I do both of these simultaneously?

You don't. Those features are not available in the built-in Outlook editor. You would have to compose the text in some other editor, e.g. Word, and paste it in.

Well, that's too bad!

Ok. Then is there some way that I can use Word as my e-mail editor, and not
have it spell-check the original message in replies and forwards?

Thanks, Sue!

The Outlook editor can do the trademark and copyright symbols as well as a
superscript 1, 2, and 3, since they're just characters in a font, but it
can't do subscripts. The Outlook editor is simply not a word processor.

Simply highlight the text you wish to spell check first. Word will ask
before checking the remainer.

What font is that?

Many of the fonts that come with Windows contain the superscript characters
and most contain the trademark and copyright characters. Use Character Map
to see them. To add the latter two easily, check out
http://allchars.zwolnet.com/
How do I establish keystroke commands to change fonts?

Chances are, if you're using one of the common Windows fonts, you won't have
to change fonts. You just need to enter the code for the characters you
want.

This is good. Thanks, Brian.

I've installed allchars, which looks to be fun.

But I would really like to learn how to use the char map. Would you be kind
enough to walk me thru it? I have it open. There is an "upper" and "lower"
toggle - is that the "Shift" key?

I have selected the character (ß) I want to use. It appears in the little
window.

1) I click "copy," go into a new OL message window, establish the cursor,
and paste. Nothing happens.

When I paste in THIS window, it pastes just fine - as in the previous
paragraph.
But when I paste in a OL message window, nothing happens.

2) There is a keystroke command indicated: Alt+ 0223. I went into my new
message window, pressed the Alt+0223. It just dinged at me. I tried both
holding the Alt key and releasing the Alt key before pressing the 4 digits.

Please Advise.

Thank you.

What version of Windows? I don't have an "upper/lower" toggle.

Which "little window". After clicking a character, I click "Select", then
"Copy".

You should also be able to drag-and-drop the character from the small
magnified image you get when you click the character.

The Numlock key must be on and you must use the numbers on the number
keypad, not those across the top of the keyboard. Press and hold Alt and
ener the four digits. When you release Alt, the special character should
appear. Character Map doesn't have to be open for this to work, if you know
the Unicode value.

6h, b6y! 5 2NEW 5'd have t6 3earn h6w t6 4se the st4-5d n40bers 6n th5s
n6teb662 2eyb6ard!

But I can live with this for the few characters that I need to generate in
unicode. Thank you very much.

Now I'm going to push my luck: can you dream up any way that I can generate
a dropped arabic numeral 2?

Thanks,

S

Hi, Stephanie

Don't know if you'll get this, since your post was a long time
ago...however, here goes. When you say a 'dropped Arabic numeral 2', you
mean something like a subscript, I generally just use a smaller font. Even
though it is not 'dropped', it does look rather like a subscript.
Unfortunately, I know of no similar 'trick' for superscripts. I hope you
find this helpful!

Yep. that's the best I've figured out, too. I also bold it to give it a
little punch.

Thanks much!

Wow, and all that is easier than just highlighting your message and clicking
"no" to "Check Remainder?"

Interesting..... very interesting....
