Format and Erase CD-RW in WinXP ?

Patches Forever

I always used Roxio Drag2Disc for format and erase of CD-RWs but I had
assumed there was native capability to do those things in WinXP itself. But
if you uninstall Drag2Disc you lose the Format and Erase items in Windows
Explorer. Is there some way to add these capabilities to WinXP without
installing 3rd party software ?

TIA Bill S.

Microsoft

Try this :
Right click Drive in explorer,
Properties,
Recording tab,
Tick "Enable recording on this drive".

If the above fails :
Click Start > Run,
Type "services.msc" (Without quotes),
Double click "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service",
In scroll down menu- select "Automatic",
Start it (By clicking Start button),
See if those options are available,
If not try a reboot.

Of course it won't be. winxp doesn't support packet formatting and I
don't know of any freeware that you can download.
The native writing capability built into winxp backs up files to a
folder then masters them to cd when told to and it's less than impressive.
I believe but cannot check (since I have DLA installed) that winxp can
read packet written disks, but that's not a problem since you can
install software to enable reading.
