Format a partition in XP Pro

Guest

I have one hard drive in my computer. I created a partition in it during the
install for XP Pro. The partition that has the system installed in was
formatted NTFS. I want to format the other partition on the hard drive, but
can not do it using Drive Management in Computer Management. How do I format
the other partition so that I can use it to store data? Thanks!

What error message (if any) are you getting? You may have to create a
partition in the unused portion of the disk before you can format it.

I'm not getting an error message. In the disk management window, my drive
show up as c: Healthy (system) 24 GB and then the other partition on the
drive as 124 GB Unallocated. When I right click the unallocated portion,
Format does not show up as an option.

You have to create a partition first.

I'm a little confused. I created the partition during XP setup. The smaller
partition was formated and XP was installed. Is it possible to format the
other portion of the hard drive during the same setup that installed the
system on the 24 GB partition of the hard drive?

Thanks for the help!

After you defined the partition for Windows and formatted it, you had the
option to also define the second partition and format it or just proceed
with Windows installation. You probably moved on without thinking about the
unallocated space. But you should be able to make a partition in the
unallocated space with Disk Manager. Then the option to format will be
available in the context menu. You assign a drive letter to the unallocated
space and that should prepare it for formatting. It is deceptively simple.
