foreign character set appears in drop-down windows

When I access a particular site for a U.S. company, the
home page appears normal and readable in American
English. When I flyover the drop-downs, the items in all
of the drop-down lists appear to be using some foreign
character set that I do not recognize.

I experience a similar symptom with Symantec Internet
Security. All of the administrations pages are fine, but,
when an alert pops up, the contents of the alert box are
unreadable because the characters are not English.

I am using Internet Explorer 6.6 with the latest updates
from Microsoft and have NOT updated from any of the sites
referred by those messages claiming to be from Microsoft
support. I have not received any of those and am pretty
confident Symantec is/has caught them all.

I am current with all of my Symantec updates, also.

Any ideas or suggestions?
