Forcing Windows to use Modem over Ethernet

Dwayne

I'm wondering if it is possible to force Windows XPe to use a modem
connection for communication to the internet instead of an Ethernet
connection?

We are having a problem with our .NET Service using the Ethernet
connection instead of the modem connection even though we've specified
that the default connection as the modem under the Network Connections
setting.

If we bootup the unit without the Ethernet cable attached the Service
uses the modem. We can then connect the Ethernet cable to our unit and
Remote Desktop into the unit to view debug output.

The modem is a GPRS/GSM cell modem so we can not connect remotely to
the device without an Ethernet connection.

Thanks,

Dwayne

Dwayne,

By "internet" do you mean particular Web client (e.g., IE) or in general?
It is always up to the client app to choose what type of connection to use.

In IE did you try setting Dual-up connection(s) and set option "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" or, better,
"Always dial my default connection" ? (set it Defualt choice). You can do that on the Connection Page of Internet Options.
