Foobar - Properties

I've just come across Foobar http://www.foobar2000.org/download.html

Anyone here familiar with it please? I loaded a few MP3s. One had no
YEAR tag according to my other players (MediaMonkey, WMP9, WinAmp
etc). Yet in Foobar, R-click > Properties displays a 'MetaData' window
which does shows Year (= 1942). Several other fields in Foobar don't
square with tags in those other players, such as COMMENT, and GENRE.
That last for example is shown as 'Easy Listening' in Media Monkey
etc, but in Foobar it is 'popular music 1925-1955'

Where can Foobar be getting this data from please?

Checking the site's forum and wading through it (the search wasn't too
functional so I guessed and seem to have been on track) took a few minutes
but:

Thanks, but how do you reach that conclusion please?

The example I gave was Dinah Shore - Miss You; Track 3 from
'Great Romantic Memories of The War Years Disk 3'

If I go to the Advanced Search page at
http://www.freedb.org/freedb_search.php
and enter 'Dinah Shore - Miss You'
then these 6 albums are displayed

Dinah Shore All Time Greatest Hits - Volume 1
Dinah Shore Best Of Dinah Shore
Dinah Shore Fascination: The Encore Collection
Dinah Shore Love And Kisses Dinah
Dinah Shore Private Collection
Dinah Shore Sounds Of The 20th Century Disc 2
dinah shore the very best of dinah shore

The album I am seeking isn't included.

I gather from a reply in alt.music.mp3 that the data probably comes
from 'APE tags', but I can't say I yet properly understand this.

From the looks of their advanced userguide and some older plug-ins there
used to be a plug-in that was meant to get the data there and it has been
added as part of the main download. If you browse through their wiki and
forum you'll find quite a bit of information on it. If it's not listed as an
album but the song was on another album you'll be given improper information
it seems. Such is the problem with automated tag updates. Anyhow, they have
a bunch of information on it if you want to take a peek. Just browse back to
their site and poke around with the search features.
