font size

I use Microsoft Wordpad to open my text (.txt) files.

The program always opens with a basic font size of 10, which is too small
for me. I then adjust the font size so I can read the file.

Is there a way to set the BASIC font size to, let's say, 16?

Open a new, blank document.
Choose Format and then Font.
Change to the desired font and size.
Click the default button in the bottom corner.
Click Yes to the confirmation message.

There is no default button -- unless you mean in a different application.
