I'm trying to help a friend in Houston install a Courier font o hi
computer. I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth MetromessHe has an H DeskJet 940
printer. I thought the Courier font came standard (pre-installed on H
printers, but apparently not. The standard Courier (not Courie New) fon
does not appear in his Microsoft Word list of fonts on the pull-dow list

I e-mailed him a Courier font from this computer which we tried t install
but the Install Font dialogue wouldn't let him install it. He got messag
telling him that he has to remove the font before reinstalling it. H
Checked in Windows\Fonts, but found no standard Courier font. H did find
Courier New items, though I don't know why 4 are listed

How can we get the standard Courier font to install and be availabl to hi
in Word
Sounds like possibly your friend has turned on the option to onl
sho
truetype fonts on his computer. Have him open Fonts in the Control
Panel. In the Fonts folder have him select Tools, Folder Options an
go
to the True Type Fonts tab. There he will find the setting to "Show
only TrueType fonts in the programs on my computer." Make sure that
isn't checked. If he has to remove the check, he will need to reboo

before the change is picked up

I've forgotten at which version Acrobat reader switched to the PostScript
version of Times New Roman from Times. (Agfa Monotype is the source of
the first and Linotype of the second. Adobe distributed both through
cross-licensing arrangements.) Regardless, if the version you are now
using is satisfactory, why worry about the micro-detail.

All the best.

: Thanks for the reply and, again, the very helpful posts.

in v.6?
:
: So far, so good. I'm still tinkering around with it, seeing how the new
