font installation fails

On some Windows 2000 Professional/Server boxes
installation of fonts (.fon + .ttf) fails. One of the
symptoms is that the size of a 'installed' font file is 0
bytes. This occurs very rarely - I assume that several
thousands successful installations have been done. Anyway,
it would be nice to know the reason for this kind of
failure. The fonts are installed/registered
programmatically (Wise installation system application).

Any ideas .. anyone ??

Windows 2000 as well as all Windows' products have a font limit. You may have reached that. In my opinion it is not a good idea to install fonts. If you need to use fonts programmatically you can always use a virtual installation where the font is only installed while needed. Weft comes to mind.

I use the freeware Xfonter.

I keep most of my fonts (uninstalled) in a folder on my hd so I can install
them whenever I want them. Xfonter makes it easy to see what the fonts look
like and I can even arrange them in subfolders according to type. Most of
those wonderful looking fonts are very rarely used but its nice to have them
handy when you want them.
