font/image sizes on 17" monitor

I recently upgraded to XP and a 17" LCD monitor. Maybe
I'm getting old, but it seems that all text, desktop
icons, and images are so small I can barely see them.
I've changed the desktop items to "large icons" and the
fonts to "extra large", but to no avail. On the
Internet, I've changed text size to "largest," but I see
no noticeable difference there, either.

Do I need new glasses? or is there a way to customize
these sizes?

Thanks!

Tami: Right click on desktop, choose properties/Settings/and there should be
a slider of some sort to change your resolution of screen.

As one old timer to another. R-click the desktop and go to properties on the
settings tab move the bar on the left side bottom to a lower resolution. On
my monitor and, to my preferences, I use 800X600. Try it, you might like it!

LCD monitors have a native resolution they must work at. Any deviation from
that resolution will cause degradation in image quality. Read your
documentation, if it says the monitor must work at 1280 x 1020 or 800 x 600,
then that is what you should have the resolution set at. As for fonts,
those can be changed by right clicking on an empty area of the desktop and
then choose Properties>Appearance>Advanced Button. Under Item start with
Title bar and work your way down the list, choosing a larger font for each
item you want to change.
