following boot-start .or system-start drivers failed to load: dvdram

I installed a LG GSA-4120B DVDRAM drive on my W2000 system - the
system recognized, W2K recognized and claimed it was installing drivers
then reboot and the DVDRAM is not there.
The event log says: "following boot-start .or system-start drivers
failed to load: dvdram.'"

I installed the same device on another machine running Windows ME with
no problem. recognizes, runs ...

Anyone have any advice? Since the device is not in Device Manager I
can't remove it.

In the Device Manager, click on "View" and enable "Show Hidden Devices"
and see if that shows your device. If not, you may need to find the
appropriate .inf file in the "Windows\Inf" folder and delete it.

Using "Show Hidden Devices" I can remove it, but when it reinstalls
there's apparently a wrong .inf file since it loads a Panasonic driver
which it then says "Windows cannot load the drivers required ..." On my
ME machine is uses a standard MS driver and the manual reads: "When
using Windows 98SE/2000 Professional/Me/XP Home Edition/XP
Professional, no special device driver is required. Your system, upon
Power On
and bootup after installing and connecting the new Super Multi DVD
Drive, will
recognize and load native software drivers automatically."

How do I find where it's finding which .inf file?

OK I got it -- there were 3 .inf files that referred to the device and
removing one at a time, I seemed to have located the guilty one.

thanks

Search in the files in Windows\Inf. You'll probably find an oemXX.inf
which contains this device. If so, try deleting it.
