Folder view settings, icon placement - extra special difficult

Hi,

So I've found the various places that talk about how those two registry keys
need to be created if not present and set to a higher number than 400 in
order for those settings not to run out of storage space, ie, not to end up
with icons not staying put or folder views changing. Both of those things
started happening to me after I ran RegSeek and removed a bunch of registry
entries and MRU/Stream MRU items, as well - whatever those are! I restored
all the entries and even looked in regedit and also a program registrar but
those two registry keys were not only there, the had values set to 5000! I
think SP 2 does this automatically? However some of the registry/MRU entries
related to the desktop are not accessible and also not able to be deleted -
the "bags\0" entry I think, some more. Hopefully someone is familiar enough
with this problem that they know what I mean, because I am about delirious
from exhaustion.

I would greatly appreciate any help. If not, I'll hope that I have a recent
system restore point!

Google for a site named "Kellys Korner" -- she posts here regularly.
She has reg entries already fixed up and ready to go for you.

I did check that out and have downloaded her regedit for the two keys I
mentioned, the ones anyone who might happen to know what I'm talking about
would suggest I create or modify. Problem is, they're there, and they have
values of 5000 already.

I think my problem is that the registry entries where the folder settings
are stored - not just where the number of settings to be stored is - are
corrupt or something, were incorrectly restored or deleted by the program
RegSeeker. They show up but cannot be opened in regedit, nor deleted.

Thanks. I'll try the reg key from Kelly's Korner and see if it helps.

As far as I know, MRU stands for Most Recently Used.

Well, I had a recent system restore point, so its a moot issue for me now.
Thanks for your replies, guys, and maybe someone else will have the same
problem, so if anyone reads this who has more ideas, by all means keep
posting.

Cheers,
k
