Folder Tags

Hi,
When I open a folder and select Details I always get 'Tags', 'Album',
'Rating', '#' etc. I right click the toolbar and remove all of these because
all I want is the file name and the size. I then open the same folder again
and they're all there again.
How I can I permanently set this to just the name and size please?
TIA,
Alan.

Right click on the folder, choose "Properties". Click on the Customize tab,
change the "Use this folder type as a template" to one of your choosing.
(generally "All Types")

Thanks for that, it works well. Is there a way to apply it to all folders in
one go without having to customise each one individually? I have some music
folders as well as pictures, data etc but I don't want all that nonsense in
those either.
Thanks again,
Alan.

I don't think so, it's an individual folder thing. I definitely could be
wrong though, I haven't look into it too much.

Vista stores several folder templates for different types of data.
If you'd like one standard configuration (I did), try this:

1. Open your Documents folder.
2. Right click within the window and select CUSTOMIZE THIS FOLDER.
3. Select one of the template options from the drop-down list.
4. Configure the columns and layout the way you want it.
5. Click on the ORGANIZE button on your toolbar and select FOLDER AND SEARCH
OPTIONS.
6. Select the VIEW tab and click the APPLY TO FOLDERS button.

This will use the configuration you just set up for all folders of that type
in the future.
Do the same (steps 2-6) for each of the template types and you now have
default layouts for each folder type.

There's one more step if you want a 'clean start' - delete the registry keys

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU] and
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

Your window history will be gone now, but when you open a new window it will
default to the appropriate template type from your newly-defined list.
There may be a simpler way, but that's how I would do it.

Thanks very much for that Dave,
It worked perfectly and the way you have written it made it very easy to do.
Deleting registry keys is a bit beyond me although I have done it before
under advice. Presumably the files in those folders, 0, 1, 2, etc are the
templates and once they're removed a new folder just defaults to the only
one in existence.
It was only a minor annoyance really, but I found it a bit tedious having to
add the headings I wanted and delete the ones I didn't, especially after the
first few hundred times!
Thanks again, both to you and everyone who took the time and effort to
reply, it's very much appreciated.
Regards,
Alan.
