Folder shows "no items" while indicating unread mail.

about two days ago my junk email folder started showing "there are no items
in this view" eventhough there was undeleted mail in it and the column view
shows * unread messages. I have tried closing the program and rebooting the
computer without any results. I have no idea why this happened and am worried
that my Inbox might be next.
